In the Studio

Volunteers offer support in our studio location with the day-to-day artmaking process. Responsibilities may include: assisting students with projects, organizing art materials, cleaning paint trays and brushes, cutting art papers, sorting artwork for framing, and photographing artwork.

Necessary Skills: Interest in various types of art media, willingness to clean, respect for individuals and their creative process.

Time Commitment: One to four hours per week, during our regular hours of 9a.m to 3p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Gallery Sales Support

Volunteers are needed to help with gallery sales, greeting visitors, and organizing cards and unframed artwork for display.

Necessary Skills: Customer service and retail experience, desire to explain the Art Explorers program to gallery patrons.

Time Commitment: 11a.m. to 2p.m. on Fridays or Saturdays

Exhibition Preparation

Volunteers are needed to help us prepare for our art shows and First Friday events by organizing and framing artwork.

Necessary Skills: Ability to assemble standard frames, package artwork for sale.

Time Commitment: Help with at least two shows per year. Framing takes place after 3p.m. or on Sundays.

 

Special Events

Art Explorers participates in a variety of events and activities throughout the year, such as Art in the Gardens and the Earth Day Festival. Volunteers for special events in the community help set up and staff our Art Explorers pop-up booth. This may involve carrying tables and chairs, putting up a folding tent, displaying artwork for sale, and interacting with the public.

For in-house art exhibits and fundraisers, volunteers are needed to help with set up and clean up at First Friday art shows, gallery sales, staffing the wine and food area, and giving information to patrons about Art Explorers.

Necessary Skills: Friendly and interested in promoting the Art Explorers program. Able to lift 25 lb.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per event. Help with at least two events per year.

We ask that all volunteers fill out a short application form and provide proof of fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice. Ask Maria or Sarah for the form, and we will reimburse the fingerprinting fee. Fingerprinting can be done at the Fort Bragg Police Department at 250 Cypress Street, Monday and Wednesday 1:30- 3:30p.m.,Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-11:00a.m.
